How business.wiki is built
business.wiki is a directory of real businesses compiled from open, permissively licensed data. This page explains where our information comes from, what we do and do not claim, and how a business owner can take control of their listing. We would rather show less than show something we cannot stand behind.
Where our data comes from
Names, addresses, coordinates, phone numbers, websites, social links and category tags are drawn from open global place data, principally the Overture Maps Foundation, published under a permissive licence that allows reuse with attribution, which we provide here and in the footer of every page. We deliberately do not scrape proprietary directories or map services, and our place dataset does not incorporate OpenStreetMap data, to keep our data licensing clean. The interactive map on a business page is rendered with OpenStreetMap purely as a display layer, attributed to OpenStreetMap contributors; no OSM data is merged into our listings.
Open data is never perfect. Some records may be out of date, a business may have moved or closed, or a category may be coarse. Where the source marks a place as closed we label it. Owners can correct anything that is wrong, and we welcome it.
How a listing is compiled
Each business page is generated from a single source record, never stitched together from many. For every business we keep only the fields we genuinely hold. We add context computed from real data, such as how many businesses of the same category are in that city, and the nearest comparable businesses by distance. The descriptive text is grounded in that business's actual fields, not a generic paragraph with a name dropped in, and never asserts anything specific we have not verified.
Our review policy
Ratings and reviews on business.wiki come only from real users who submit them here. We do not scrape reviews from other platforms, we do not buy them, and we do not generate them. Our structured data includes an aggregate rating only when a real review exists. We would rather a page carry no rating than a fake one.
How to claim or correct a listing
If you own or manage a business listed here, you can claim its page. Claiming lets you correct the details, add your opening hours, and keep your contact information current. Open your business's page and use the claim option, or email owners@business.wiki with the business name and the correction you need.
Who is behind it
business.wiki is an independent reference with one rule above all: every page must rest on real, verifiable information. We are expanding country by country, and we publish a page only once it carries enough genuine data to be useful.
